It started as a webcomic -

Eventually I got this crazy idea - how hard would it be to animate?

Turns out it wasn't that bad!  For one guy to animate a long-form story with good 3D or cel animation would be next to impossible, but Project Tinfoil is a B-movie!  It can be bad, so long as it is bad in a good way.  That much I can do.

So, the good news is, I can make this thing.  The visual part at least.  The not-yet-good news part is, I could be stronger on the promotional/business end.  One can imagine the end game of massive Kickstarter success, but there's this ?????? Underpants Gnome phase I'm not seeing a clear way through.  The feedback I've gotten has been positive, and my retention rate on YouTube is good (average to above average for the trailer).  That "?????????" though - between YouTube and NewGrounds the trailer only has 700 views.  Granted that's only a week on YouTube and four days on NewGrounds, but how many views does it take to get through "?????????"?  70,000?  700,000?  7,000,000?  I've no idea but I'm going to guess it's really high.

If possible I'd like to Kickstart Tinfoil when the current scene with Einstein and Von Neumann on the UFO is finished, and get the voices and sound done professionally.  But I'm thinking I'll probably get the scene done before that's viable.  On the one hand, I don't want to go further than that without having the first segment voiced, because that's a lot of material to have doing nothing.  On the other hand, it doesn't seem fair to ask anyone to work for free or peanuts.  It also hasn't worked out well for me in the past.  It looks like it's going to come down to that though - I wonder if I should bite the bullet and get on with it?  There's no reason why I couldn't begin the search for someone to perform the theme song.

In the meantime I'll be posting "making of" videos -

I'm learning how to do these, so the first ones are a little rough.  I'll have a screencast of the GIMP and Blender portion in a couple days.  Anyone can do this.  It's a good alternative to cel animation, and you've got original art to sell afterwards.  I'm planning to sell mine if I get enough of an audience to move it (and can figure out how to ship the stuff).

That's it for now.  Suggestions for how to build this thing are welcome!
